Coraline 750 Outsider

OUTSIDER’S INSIDE RUN

Coraline boat builders has an established niche in the WA plate alloy boat market as an operation that caters for customers who want something a bit special.

The people at the firm’s Bayswater factory constantly come up with practical and stylish designs that are within the financial reach of most new boat buyers.

The 750 Outsider hard top is one of Coraline’s largest boats and if I was asked to describe it using one word it would have to be “substantial”.

The “beast” can be seen at Boat City’s showroom at Balcatta.

It has good-sized boarding platforms on both sides, with heavy duty handrails and a fold-up boarding ladder featuring checker-plate treads installed on the port side. The boat has a solid transom door, a two-person, padded transom seat and storage space under the transom for batteries. Two angled, stainless steel rod holders are set into each on both sides, as well as at the bow. Handrails extend along the full length of both gunwales and big side pockets are positioned beneath.

This boat has all the necessities for a day or two on the water, with an angled bench on the port side containing a plumbed stainless steel sink and two-burner stove up top, an Isotherm fridge below and storage space under the stove. Beyond that bench is a two-person seat with storage hatches underneath along the port side, facing the skipper’s chair. All seats have footrests and the captain’s chair is mounted on a box-type base, which has a storage compartment accessible from a hatch facing the cockpit.

Controls are sensibly laid out, there’s a classy five-spoke wheel and the skipper and passengers are each provided with a big, carpeted, railed-in shelf in front of the three-piece windscreen, which provides excellent all-round vision. The front part of two-piece side windows slide back to provide ventilation. A good-sized glovebox is positioned in front of the passenger seat and a solid, lockable door provides access to the cabin.

There’s a step down to the V-berth, which is about 1.8m long, with internal light and provision for a chemical toilet. Two oval-shaped windows with stainless steel surrounds provide natural cabin illumination, as does a tinted roof hatch, which can be secured open in pretty well any position.

The cockpit is carpeted and there’s a 200-litre underfloor kill tank. The gunwales have non-slip top surfaces, which are also installed on the walk-around sections and on the hard top’s roof. Sturdy handrails provide good purchase to a bowwhere a self-draining anchor well is installed, together with a bow roller and electric anchor winch. Eight rod holders are fitted to the rear end of the hard top, which has a carpeted cieling and a vertical grab rail that is well positioned to assist when moving up.

This boat has hydraulic steering, a bilge pump, manual deck wash and it comes with a five-year hull warranty. Nicely finished, with two-tone paint and matching upholstery, the Coraline 750 Outsider has a 27MHz flush-mounted radio, speakers and light under the hard top, Epirb and offshore flare kit.

Boat City’s Graham Gow said he would be happy to arrange an on-water test for anyone who was interested.
